Rhode Island College’s annual Giving Day is taking place later this month on Wednesday, April 26. Giving Day is a yearly occasion where the RIC Foundation raises money to support students at the college.
The RIC Foundation raised $42,156 from a total of 233 donors. This year, the RIC Foundation is aiming to double their number of donors to 500. This foundation, a 501(c)(3) founded in 1965, is its own entity that’s separate from RIC and focuses on raising money for the college.
The theme for this year’s Giving Day event is “One Bold Day of Giving.”
Jeanmarie Pariseau, the annual giving officer at the RIC Foundation, says this year’s focus is “on engagement,” with the goal being “to spread the culture of philanthropy across the campus.”
Money raised by the RIC Foundation goes toward funding scholarships for students.
“Without support from the Rhode Island College Foundation, there is simply no way that I could manage the cost of college and childcare , along with every life expense that always seems to get thrown one's way,” Marla Mooney, a student who has received one of these RIC Foundation scholarships, said. “I am forever grateful for your incredible generosity. I hope that you know how much of a life-changing opportunity this is for my family-and for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Alongside providing scholarships for RIC students, the foundation’s webpage says donations also go to ensuring “that students have access to state-of-the-art facilities” as well as supporting “research and professional development that our faculty bring back to their classrooms.”
During April 26, there will also be an event to accompany this year’s Giving Day. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pariseau says there are going to be activities, free Del’s lemonade and a chance to win prizes by spinning a wheel, all taking place at the Quad.
There are multiple ways those interested in donating can do so. The options include cash, checks, paying online and more. Additional information about how to donate can be found here.
