Rhode Island College’s Women’s Gymnastics team earned their first head to head victory of the season. The Anchorwomen were able to beat Springfield College by a score of 186.200 to 184.775.

This match saw senior Emma Tucker shine. Tucker scored an impressive 9.700 on the beam while also scoring a 9.625 on the vault. Both scores secured first place in this dual meet. Tucker also scored a 9.725 on the floor, which placed her third.

Fifth-year Kelsey Gates also had quite the remarkable performance for the Anchorwomen. Gates was able to produce an all-around total score of 37.100. Gates’ best score on a category was 9.825 on the floor, achieving her first place in the dual meet.

Other key contributors for the Anchorwomen were Sophomore Abigail Bunch, Junior Jessica Nugent and Junior Sophia Damiano. Bunch was able to produce a 9.425 score on the bars, placing second. Nugent finished third on the beam with a score of 9.500 and Damiano was able to tie for third on the vault with a score of 9.500.

This win was particularly impressive considering the Anchorwomen had just competed in the Bridgewater Quad just two days prior. During the Quad, the Anchorwomen were able to score 188.425 score, marking their highest score on the season.

Unfortunately for the Anchorwomen, their season-high score was only adequate enough for fourth place on the day, as teams like Bridgeport, Alaska and Ursinus achieved higher overall scores.

Senior Olivia Keyes was the team’s standout performer on the day. Keyes finished third in the all-around score. Her best performance came on the beam, as she was able to score a 9.775, securing third place for the day.

The Anchorwomen had quite the busy week as they competed three times in just nine days. Fortunately for the Anchorwomen, their next meet is against Utica University on the road on Saturday. The Anchorwomen should be well-rested for that dual match and could potentially improve their record to 2-0 on the season.
